Sun Xun is one of China’s most exciting young artists, best known for his animations made up of thousands of ink paintings, charcoal drawings and woodcuts. Containing very little dialogue, these hand-made films raise questions about what we perceive as truth and explore the slippery dynamics of memory, history, culture and politics. The exhibition identity referenced a quote by Sun Xun on the reasons why he is drawn towards black holes, he sees them as a way to discover new things completely different to what you had managed. The design uses a lot of rich blacks, and a contemporary but also unique serif typeface. The catalogue cover flipped the design on the back to reference the idea of parallel worlds that appears regularly in his work.
